fossiliferous

Ivy Alvarez created this piece as part of a larger work that she started during her stay in the Fundacion Valparaiso in Spain, early 2008. She found an amusing book called The Everyday English Dictionary, full of words she couldn’t really imagine being used during the course of the day. So she selected what was strange and marvelous, and wrote her own definitions.

Oh I love this, what a great idea, what a cool definition. As an aside, I bought Mortal recently and really enjoyed it.

Interesting play between photo and words. Sad, seeing the stiff little bird corpse along the paint-chipped window sill.

Beautiful ideas all around. I love the idea of making your own definitions and to connect this one to this photo is just fantastic.

    Hi Ivy–

Reminds me of the idea behind “Logorrhea” (Bantam), stories using spelling bee winners. My word was “smaragdine.” And do they all have pictures?

Thanks, everybody, for all your kind words.

Marly: There will be another word with an image. :-)
